Candidate Description: The Chinese Bible Church of San Diego Main Campus invites applicants for a full-time Youth Pastor to minister to about 70 youth (grades 6 to 12).

We are seeking a Godly, caring individual with a loving shepherd's heart to build up the next generation of Christ disciples. This person needs to have experience in and an understanding of the unique nature of youth culture and ministry.

The candidate possesses a 3-4 year accredited seminary education/training in pastoral ministry with a calling to be a youth pastor. We require the candidate to have 2 years youth pastor experience, preferably with experience in the Asian American ministry context. The candidate must be fluent in English and the ability to speak or understand Mandarin would be a plus but not required.

Youth Pastor Responsibilities:

Pulpit Ministry:

  1. Preach regularly on Sundays for the youth worship service - Access.
  2. Lead the pulpit ministry as a whole through the faithful teaching and preaching of God’s Word while empowering youths themselves as ministers of the gospel.

Evangelistic:

  1. Prioritize evangelism and mission into the DNA of the overall youth program.
  2. Create opportunities for youth to reach out to their friends, family, the community, and those around the world who have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Shepherding & Koinonia:

  1. Build caring, and encouraging personal relationships with youths and youth parents, and provide counseling when called upon. Build communication bridges, partnerships and parenting ministries.
  2. Provide spiritual guidance and train the youths with spiritual discernment, wisdom, and boundaries.
  3. Develop the youth fellowship and small group life into functional Christian communities.

Discipleship & Maturity:

  1. Disciple and mentor youths and train youths to disciple younger generation youths.
  2. Work to develop an appropriate Sunday School youth curriculum which in turn becomes a discipleship mechanism which both equips and grows youths as solid disciples of Jesus Christ filled with knowledge and understanding of both God and His Word.
  3. Lead a Friday evening youth group which works in collaboration with both junior high and high school teams of youth co-workers to grow the youth ministry and the CBC church family.

Ministry Training:

  1. Help youth fellowship advisors and leaders to plan and prepare programs that will meet the needs of the youths.
  2. Recruit and train new and existing youth workers -- advisors, teachers, and disciplers.

Oversight & Administration:

  1. Work with the Senior Pastor and the rest of the pastoral staff to develop a youth ministry vision.
  2. Cultivate a healthy working relationship with other CBC pastoral staff and develop synergy between the CBC campuses. Help the church to be aware and sensitive to the needs and concerns of the youths and integrate the youth into the entire church ministry.
  3. Communicate regularly with parents and youth on upcoming events and happenings within the youth ministry. Maintain communication with any congregations that might be impacted by such events or happenings.
  4. Set and manage youth ministry budget, maintain reports, calendar of events, equipment and facility needs.

Accountability:

  1. The youth pastor position shall be a full-time position with salary and benefits commensurate with experience and shall be for a 2 year renewable term.
  2. The youth pastor shall report to the CBCSD Senior Pastor who will supervise his work and give annual evaluations.
  3. The youth pastor shall give frequent reports on the status of the youth ministry to the various congregational deacon boards of the church (Main English, Main Mandarin, Cantonese, 4S Mandarin).
